White House most likely won't build Death Star anytime soon

A petition to the White House to “Secure resources and funding, and begin construction of a Death Star by 2016” has made waves over the past two weeks, after a White House official shot down the idea with a destructive energy beam response titled “This Isn’t the Petition Response You’re Looking For.”

The petition, which gained 34,435 total signatures, asked for the White House to focus U.S. “defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star,” the petition reads.
The author of the petition even points out the potential for job creation.

“By focusing our defense resources into a space-superiority platform and weapon system such as a Death Star, the government can spur job creation in the fields of construction, engineering, space exploration, and more, and strengthen our national defense.”

Read the response from Paul Shawcross, chief of the Science and Space Branch at the White House Office of Management and Budget
