San Francisco 49ers win Superbowl in Tecmo arcade video game
The San Francisco 49ers are Super Bowl XLVII champions!
Well at least according to Tecmo Bowl, the football arcade game originally released by Tecmo in 1988.
The 8-bit game, which also made its way to the Nintendo system, has been revamped by a group called the TecmoBowlers, who posted a video on YouTube where they took the same basic design and incorporates the players who will be fighting to be crowned Super Bowl champions.
The teams play tight defense heading into the fourth quarter as the score is locked at 17-17 with the Ravens driving down the field. Joe Flacco throws an interception on third down to 49ers safety Donte Whitner.
“The 49ers pull out the win by capitalizing on Joe Flacco's costly mistakes,” the description for the game said as to why the 49ers win their sixth championship in team history.
After the interception the 49ers score on a touchdown pass from Colin Kapernick to wide receiver Michael Crabtree—Crabtree’s third of the game. The 49ers would cap the game with a touchdown run by quarterback Colin Kapernick to give the 49ers the 31-17 victory in Super Bowl XLVII.
Now for all those old school gamers who miss the techno music in the games and where the players look like blobs on the screen, check out the entire simulation below.
